What is Perthes disease?
A condition in which the patient experiences a temporary loss of blood supply to the hip is called Perthes disease. As a result of inadequate blood supply, the rounded head of the femur dies. It causes intense inflammation and irritation in the area. The disease process has many stages. This disease is usually seen among children between the age of 4 and 10. it is more common among boys.
What are the symptoms of Perthes disease?
There can be mild pain and limping. These symptoms may be seen intermittently for weeks or months. The child may experience pain in the leg, knee, thigh and groin area. Hip movements usually worsen the pain.
How the disease is diagnosed?
Usually, doctors use x-rays to diagnose the condition. The doctor may suggest x-rays several times during the treatment period.
