Infertility treatments aim at assisting lesbian couples to fulfil their dream of having a baby. It doesn’t matter, whether the couple is of the same sex, they can even have children with the help of various infertility techniques. Some of the treatment options for lesbian and gay couple include- Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), gestational carriers, sperm donation and egg donation.
A lesbian couple, preparing for an infertility treatment should first meet the doctor for an initial consultation. During the initial consultation, the doctor will check your medical history, test reports and overall physical health. The doctor will discuss the potential treatment and financial options for the treatment. After the consultation, the doctor will suggest for certain diagnostic tests to determine the fertility level of each partner. After completing the diagnostic processes, the doctor and medical team will prepare a treatment and protocol for the couple accordingly.
The next step to the treatment is to decide the partner who is going to carry the pregnancy. If any medical issue is there with a partner, the couple may choose one partner for providing egg and the other to carry the pregnancy. However, this method and treatment protocol are bit complex. A surgical egg retrieval will be carried out in one of the partners who is donating the eggs. The eggs will then be inseminated with the donor sperm. When it becomes mature, an embryo transfer will be carried out in the other partner. Even though, it is an expensive procedure, it is the best option for the partners to feel more connected with the child.
