There are some causes of infertility that cannot be corrected, however a female does have the chance to conceive, with the help of assisted reproductive technology known as (ART). Together with infertility treatment, there are also other significant physical, psychological, financial and time commitment.

Treatment for men

Which involves, the treatment for general sexual problems or even lack of healthy sperm.

The treatment includes:

  • Addressing the issues of impotence or premature ejaculation with one or both approaches may improve fertility.
  • If the lack of health sperm is suspected and there is a cause of a males infertility, either surgery or hormones, or assisted reproductive technology is done to correct the problem
  • Sperm Retrieval-With the help of these techniques, sperm is obtained , when there is a problem with ejaculation, there is another method which is surgical sperm aspiration, which allows retrieval of sperm if the ejaculatory duct is blocked, and electric or vibratory stimulation is used to achieve ejaculation, which will help to achieve sperm in men with spinal cord injury.

Treatment for women

For a women, there may be one or two therapies, that would help women to achieve fertility it is possible that there are several different types of treatment which may be needed before she is able to conceive.

  • Fertility drugs used to stimulate ovulation

Drugs used in fertility which help in treating women who are infertile, due to ovulation disorders, also medications which help regulate or either induce ovulation. It is best to get an opinion from your doctor to know which fertility drugs options are available-knowing also the risks and benefits.

  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

During this procedure, healthy sperm is retrieved, which is collected and then placed directly into the uterus, around the time the women’s ovary releases one or more eggs to be fertilised. This procedure can co-ordinate with the normal cycle or with fertility medications.

Surgery to restore fertility

Hysteroscopic surgery can repair uterine problems, like endometrial polyps, uterine septum or intrauterine scar tissue.

Assisted reproductive technology

Is the highest chance of pregnancy of most couples, with fertility treatment in which the egg and the sperm are handled, this technology that is used is set up by a team of physicians, psychologists, embryologists, lab technicians, nurses and allied health professional who work together to help infertile couples to become pregnant.

There are also other techniques which are used, like IVF(in-vitro fertilisation) which is common to most ART techniques. With the help of IVF, it helps in stimulating and also reverting multiple mature eggs from a woman, and fertilising them together with a man’s sperm in the lab, and implanting the embryos in the uterus, in a period of 3-5 days after fertilization.

Different techniques are sometimes used with an IVF(cycle)

  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)

With help of this procedure a single or healthy sperm is injected directly into the matured egg. This is used when the quality of the sperm is low, or there are few sperms, and or if fertilisation attempts made during prior IVF cycles have failed.

  • Assisted hatching

This helps in attempting to assist in implantation of the embryo into the lining of the uterus or by opening the outer covering of the embryo

  • Donor eggs or sperm

The assisted reproductive procedure is used when the woman’s uses her own eggs and her partners, however if there is a problem with the eggs or the sperm, then you can opt for an anonymous donor

  • Gestational carrier

-This found in women who do not have a functional uterus of whom pregnancy poses a serious health risk, then then option of IVF is considered, usually in these cases the couples embryo is placed in the uterus of the carrier to carry out the pregnancy
