Bronchial Asthma

Bronchial asthma (tomaka shvasa) is an allergic disorder which results from the reaction of the body to one or more allergens and is one of the most severe respiratory diseases. It is one of the most commonly found types of Asthma.

An asthmatic patient finds difficulty in breathing, sense of tightness, constriction around the chest, whistling sound while breathing and difficulty in inspiration and expiration. Several Ayurvedic options are available for treating Asthma. Invasion of allergens into our daily life is the main cause for it. Increasing industrialization and spreading urbanization ae the provoking factors for asthma. The disease is further aggravated by non-specific factors such as cold air, tobacco, smoke, dust and acrid fumes, respiratory viral infection and emotional stress.

Treatment

Pippali powder along with Sitopaladi Churna is first given to Asthmatic patient. The combined effect of both these Ayurvedic medicines provides a huge relief to the patient in the initial stages. This balmy effect sets the stage for cure of the diseases. Since Pippali powder or Sitopaladi churna consuming all alone may cause throat irritation, the powder should be mixed with honey.

Some of the food items like curd, buttermilk, bananas, guavas and fried foods should be strictly avoided from your diet. The patient needs to quit all sour substances. Both active and smoking should be avoided. Too much physical exercise and exposure to cold and damp should be avoided.

Bronchial asthma in children

Children are more susceptible to Asthma than elders. In infants, it upsets the respiratory system because of small airways. There are certain factors which may lead to further narrowing of the respiratory tract. This narrowing develops wheezing sound while breathing.

The Infection soon develops in the respiratory system of infants. Immediate treatment is recommended in such cases. The numbers of children affected by asthmatic problems are increasing at an alarming rate all over the world.

According to Ayurveda, Kapha Dosha is involved in these diseases. Auyurveda boast effective medicines like Kantakari, Tulasi, Haridra, Pushkarmool and Agatsyarasyna.  A child is to be tested by an Ayurvedic physician before taking medications as the dosage is to be adjusted for pediatric patients..
