What is Gastritis ?
Gastritis is a condition in which protecting lining of the stomach-known as the mucosa is inflamed. In Ayurveda, this condition is called as urdhava amlapitta. If you have a pitta body constitution, you are prone to this disease.
What causes Gastritis ?
The protective stomach lining contains special cells that produce acid and enzymes, which help to break down food for digestion, and mucus, which protects the stomach lining from acid. When the protective lining is inflames, it produces less acid, enzymes, and mucus. Gastritis can occur suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic).
Gastritis can be caused by irritation due to intake of certain medications like aspirin, excessive alcohol consumption and injury. A section of the individuals who are affected with Gastritis may develop stomach ulcers due to gastritis. In normal cases, gastritis is not that serious and can be treated easily.
What are the symptoms of Gastritis ?
- Upper abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Indigestion meals
In most of the cases gastritis may not show any symptoms. Stomach trouble and indigestion are common problems faced by most of us from time to time. Normally, these conditions are mild and subside quickly. However, it is advisable to consult a doctor if the condition remains the same for more than week. It is imperative to seek prompt medical care if you start vomiting blood or notice bloody discharge in the stools. The individuals suffering from gastritis should follow a strict dietary and lifestyle changes to keep themselves comfortable.
