The mouth is one of the essential and important parts of the human body. It plays a very important role in the digestive system. The mouth has many components including the teeth, lips, mobile tongue, hard palate, floor of the mouth, gingiva (gum), retromolar trigone, cheek mucosa etc. The main functions of the mouth is to help to speak and allow the passage of air. The mucous membrane is the element that helps to keep the mouth moist always. It has many small glands including the salivary glands. Gingiva or the gum is formed by other membranes that line around the teeth. Other key features of the mouth is the tongue. The small papillae on the rough surface of the tongue has taste buds, which help individuals to recognize different tastes.
